Seven athletes announce college commitments

Seniors from four different sports announced college commitments today. In baseball, infielder Trey Sweeney signed with Eastern Illinois University. During the 2017 season, he had a .392 OBA, 20 walks, scored a team-high 35 runs, knocked in 23 runs and had 14 stolen bases. Additionally, he anchored the defense at shortstop and helped the team set a new KHSAA season record with 34 double plays. Pitcher Evan Burnett will play for Transylvania University. Evan was an excellent pitcher posting a 4-0 record with one save in eight appearances for the 28-12, 2017 Regional runner-up Tigers last year. He earned wins over Oldham County, Butler, Central Hardin and PRP.

Jay Kirchdorfer, will golf for University of Kentucky. He played at the KHSAA state championship in both 2016 and 2017, helping the Tigers to a 2016 state championship and 2017 runner-up finish. During the 2017 season, Jay earned individual runner-up honors at the Taylor County Invitational and Ballard Bruin Invitational.

Andrew Hinkebein, will golf for the University of Dayton. Like his teammate, he also golfed in the 2016 and 2017 KHSAA state championships. In 2016, Andrew finished as tied for the runner-up at the KYPGA Tour Championship and was the 27th individual finisher at the 2016 KHSAA state tournament.

In tennis, Alex Wesbrooks signed with the University of Louisville. Alex is a standout member of the St. X tennis team in addition to being one of the top age group players in the country. At St. X, during his sophomore and junior years, the Tigers have earned two state titles. In 2016, he was the individual runner-up in both the Region 6 Tournament and the KHSAA state championship. In 2017, he earned the individual Region 6 title and was a semifinalist at the KHSAA state tournament.

Cole Brown, will swim for the University of Alabama. Cole has earned both All-State and All-American honors while helping the Tigers continue their streak of 29 consecutive state championships and is a 2018 team captain. In his most recent state meet, he finished third in both the 200 yard freestyle and 200 yard butterfly individual events. Additionally, he earned first place with his teammates in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Aldan Johnston, will swim for the University of Arizona. He has earned both All-State and All-American honors and is a 2018 team captain. In 2016, he was the state runner-up in both the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle individual events and the 200 yard and 400 yard relay events. In 2017, Aldan came back to earn the state championship in all four of those events as he helped lead the Tigers to their 29th consecutive state title.
