Seniors can now be considered for corporate or business scholarships
Five St. X seniors were named candidates for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's Special Scholarship award.
The following seniors will submit an application for the scholarship, which is funded by corporate sponsors of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation: Henry Ackerson, Kevin Haas, James Logan, Colin Pifer and Samuel Robinson.
Henry Ackerson is a member of the National Honor Society, Y-Club, Jazz Band and the Ultimate Frisbee Club. He also volunteers off campus at Lions Youth Camp.
Kevin Haas is another member of the National Honor Society and spends most of his time after school in the St. X drama department. Kevin hopes to study theatre in college.
James Logan is a member of the Intramural Soccer championship team in the junior/senior division and also participates in the Ultimate Frisbee Club. James has worked at UPS as a package handler and hopes to major in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisville Speed School.
Colin Pifer is chair of the Student Activities Council and a Governor's Scholars Program participant. Additionally, he is the KYA Secretary, German Club Secretary and a member of both the National Honor Society and German National Honor Society. Off campus, he has worked at UPS as a package handler, served as a 4-H Camp leader and is a physics tutor.
Sam Robinson is another Governor's Scholars Program participant and National Honor Society member. Sam serves as Vice President of the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society and is a member of the Ryken Service Club – a student club devoted to serving the poor, homeless, elderly and children. He hopes to pursue Biology or Chemistry in college.
The total number of seniors recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation is now up to 19!
