Saint Xavier President Dr. Perry Sangalli '76 has announced that the rising sophomore class will be added to the iPad technology initiative beginning in August. Like the freshmen, sophomores will receive school-issued iPads at the start of the school year. Parents were notified Friday, May 11 by mail and via Edline.
Dr. Sangalli states "Upon seeing the excitement about the plan for freshmen and working with faculty in selecting many new online texts and resources, several families and teachers inquired about implementing the program more quickly for other classes. That desirability moved us to a careful review of common elements in the first and second year curriculum for different academic groups. Thus, we want to provide access to the latest tools for both classes."
Freshmen and sophomores will pay a $200 technology fee, but see some savings in textbook costs as the school transitions to some iBooks and eBooks. Research indicates that the new online texts and study aids could really impact student learning.
