Freshman Year Planning Calendar

 

Beginning high school is a time of change that can be exciting, yet challenging. Transitioning into a new school, working with new teachers, or having high expectations doesn't need to be stressful. Remember, you are not alone. Let those around you help make the most of your opportunity. The following monthly list of activities will help as a guide for the year.

August-September

- Counselors will visit classrooms

- Students will have individual meetings with their counselor

- Students should explore, then get involved in clubs and activities

 

October-November

- Naviance accounts will be activated in the computer lab

- Individual counselor meetings continue

- Students should review grades by using Edline

- Meet with your teachers or counselor if you are having trouble adjusting academically

- Solid first semester grades should consist of mostly A's and B's

 

December

- Finish your first semester with a strong academic performance

- Begin planning and preparing for mid-term exams

- Evaluate how involved you've been in extracurricular clubs/activities

 

January

- Focus on beginning the second semester and improving study skills if needed

 

February-March

- Classroom visits begin for pre-registration of classes next year

- Review course booklet before selecting classes, and discuss options with your parents and counselor

- Counselors will help students complete the Personality Inventory, start entering activities in their Resume Builder, and introduce the Career Cluster Buster using Naviance

- Learn about calculating a Grade Point Average (GPA) and the importance of the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES)

- Standardized testing of basic skills on February 6th

 

April-May

- Make the fourth quarter of school count with a strong performance

- Begin planning and preparing for final exams

 

June-August

- Explore job opportunities and volunteer

- Review National Honor Society and Governor Scholars Program requirements for applying for admission during the junior year

- Read. Read. Read.
