The Tigers have won 141 state championships under Donhoff, the most by any other athletic director in school history.
Alan Donhoff, the Saint Xavier Athletic Director whose 25-year tenure has been accompanied by success in almost every measure, will retire at the end of June.
“Throughout my forty-two years at St. X, I have been fortunate to work for and with many wonderful people who spend each day striving to provide our students with educational experiences that prepare them to face the many challenges that lie ahead of them in their futures,” said Alan Donhoff. “For twenty-five of those years, while serving as Athletic Director, it has been my privilege to help our coaches provide these experiences within the context of athletic participation. I’m sure that I will miss being an active participant in our community on a daily basis, but I know that I will never stop being part of the St. X family.”
The Tigers have won 141 state championships under Donhoff, the most by any other athletic director in school history. Additionally, with him at the helm, St. X has vastly enhanced its facilities and fundraising efforts for Tiger Athletics.
Alan is a 1972 graduate of St. X. He began his professional career with the Tigers in 1978 as a member of the Mathematics faculty. He has held other roles including Assistant Principal, Director of Studies, and head coach of the Tiger varsity basketball team.
“To me, Alan has always been a superstar for the athletic program of St. X, and a great resource for the KHSAA; he has been a valued leader for Kentucky High School Athletics. He possesses such a great wealth of institutional knowledge and experience, it is hard not to seek information or guidance from him. As principal, I have always asked Alan for his opinion on different situations due to his vast professional experience. I have always valued Alan’s leadership, he has been a great resource for me. His calm demeanor along with his genuine care and support for student athletes and coaches, has assisted with the growth, development, and success of St. X athletics,” said Principal Frank Espinosa.
He is a member of both the Saint Xavier Alumni Hall of Honors and Ohio Northern University Athletic Hall of Fame, where he lettered four times in basketball and three times in baseball.
The school has appointed current Assistant Athletic Director, Denny Williams, as the new Athletic Director. Denny will lead Tiger Athletics beginning July 1, 2020. Denny joined the Tiger staff in July 2019 after a nine-year stint as the assistant athletic director at Indiana University Southeast.
“What a blessing for me, my wife, and my two sons,” said Denny. “The Saint Xavier community has welcomed us with open arms. I am forever grateful to this administration, faculty and staff, coaches, and student-athletes. Alan has been a mentor. Under his leadership, this athletic department has grown into a powerhouse. I hope to follow his lead and continue the greatness that is Saint Xavier Athletics.”
Denny was a two-sport athlete at Ballard High School. He signed to play baseball for the University of Louisville and was a pitcher for the Cardinals from 1998-2001.
