The Class of 2020 will be honored with a naming opportunity within the new student commons
Saint Xavier High School is pleased to announce that construction has begun on the new Sangalli Interactive Learning Center and renovation of the Callahan Media Center. The project, announced publicly in November 2019, will be fully funded through contributions to the X Effect Campaign from alumni, parents and many other benefactors. “We are honored to earn this support and trust from our alumni and benefactors, which permits St. X to keep this project on schedule without any impact on our strategic initiatives to support student financial aid and maintain affordable tuition,” said Gary Ulmer, X Effect Campaign Chair. “To date, the Campaign has secured over 95% of the funding for the project through outside sources. We fully expect to complete funding of the project through gifts to the Campaign well ahead of construction completion in the fall of 2021, and I am pleased to announce that the Class of 2020 will be honored with a naming opportunity within the new student commons,” said Ulmer.
Slated to be open in August 2021, this 28,000 square foot facility will provide the most modern and uniquely academic facility for students and faculty to collaborate and utilize large open common areas, to engage with each other, and have spaces that range from casual work to formal education. Designed to meet 21st century skills, the Center will incorporate the following concepts:
- Flexible and differentiated spaces that can be configured to support collaborative group projects and quiet, individual learning as well as areas for faculty collaboration and professional work;
- Additional classrooms equipped with the latest technology and flexible furnishings that will serve both instruction during the school day and resource support, such as writing, math and reading labs where students can get specific help in core courses as well as group project and presentation areas;
- Media production space utilizing a closed-circuit television platform;
- Extended weekend and evening hours of availability for student study while waiting for activities, athletic practices and events, and for gathering with friends and classmates similar to the college environment.
“To receive such enthusiastic support of our mission and vison is both rewarding and affirming, and to have already raised $42.7 million, which is 84% of the entire Campaign goal, is very humbling for the institution,” said W. Kevin Smith, St. X Board Chair. “We are grateful to the thousands of donors to the X Effect Campaign for their unwavering generosity and commitment to make the St. X experience available for so many young men in the Louisville community. We are also pleased to support local business during these challenging times by remaining on track with this project, which was important to the Board,” said Smith.
