New information regarding an updated with graduation
Parents and seniors,
We have heard your concerns about the changes we made to graduation for this weekend. We want you to understand that there are many seniors who will not be able to participate in August due to commitments they have made with their universities or military academies. When the summer graduation date was originally announced, we heard numerous concerns from parents whose sons would not be able to attend, or they felt it was too late to recognize the senior class.
All of our decisions have been made after long discernment as an administrative team, and with deep consideration for each young man in the senior class.
We have spent four years teaching your sons in the Xaverian tradition, which taught them to think critically and to advocate for themselves while maintaining civility in their discourse. So we greatly appreciate the young men who have voiced their concerns and disappointment with integrity and kindness, and afforded us the opportunity to listen to them. We appreciate them modeling that for our entire community.
We will move forward with our plan for Sunday to recognize each member of the senior class as best we can on the day that they were supposed to walk across the stage in front of their Band of Brothers and their teachers and families. We will also hold out for the official Saint Xavier High School Commencement Ceremony on August 1, 2020, in hopes we can gather in larger groups per local health official guidelines. Likewise, we will keep the two contingency dates of November 28, 2020, and December 19, 2020, if we cannot have a large gathering in August.
We will always count on our faith as a Catholic School community to guide us and err on the side of safety for our students and their families.
