Congratulations to our eight seniors who have been named National Merit finalists! These young men will now be considered for scholarships offered by corporations and universities/colleges, which will be announced beginning in April.
Alex Pisacrita, a National Honor Society member, is a varsity letter winner on the 2017 KHSAA State Champion Soccer team. He is involved with the St. X Chinese Club and the Ryken Service Club – a student club devoted to serving the poor, homeless, elderly and children.
Jacob Sullivan, also a member of the soccer team, serves as co-president of the Spanish Club and has participated in the Governor's Scholars Program. Off campus, he volunteers for Project Warm – an organization that weatherizes homes for the underprivileged in the local community.
Sam Belza is a member of the National Honor Society and Quick Recall, and was also a Governor's Scholars Program participant. Sam's talents extend beyond the classroom and onto the stage. He has showcased his abilities in multiple performances with St. X Drama.
Griffin Mercer was named Volunteer of the Year for the Boys and Girls Club. He serves on the leadership team for the Ryken Service Club and was a participant in the Governor's Scholars Program. Additionally, is a member of the National Honor Society, Quick Recall, Governor's Cup, Math Team and Powerlifting team.
Jacob Staashelm, an Eagle Scout, is a member of the National Honors Society, Quick Recall, German Club and a four-year member of the Powerlifting team. As a junior, Jacob achieved the highest possible composite score of 36 on the ACT.
Nick Poole is another member of the National Honor Society and participates in the Ryken Service Club. He is involved with the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society, Bike to Beat Cancer and the Chemistry Club. Nick is a four-year member of both the Cross Country and Track and Field teams, and is an active participant in the St. X intramural program.
Samuel Beck skis for the Aquanut's Water Show ski team. The team placed 5th in the nation this year. During the summer, he helps teach disabled children how to water ski. Additionally, Samuel traveled to Haiti and helped build houses for poor families.
Will Fowler serves on the leadership team for the Ryken Service Club and is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Activities Council and the Tiger Golf team. Will has volunteered with Leadership Links, where he raised money alongside the Junior Golf Association for the Jack Nicklaus Children's Healthcare Foundation.
