Five seniors named Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program
Five Saint Xavier students were named National Merit Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation on Wednesday morning. These students qualified based on their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
St. X congratulates the following seniors: Jacob Bibb, Chas Pemberton, Andrew Streater, Daniel Tafel and Sam Thompson. They will compete against 7,400 other Semifinalists for spots as Finalists, which will be announced in February.
Jacob Bibb, a Saint Agnes parishioner, is a National Honor Society member and on the Powerlifting team. He is involved with the St. X Clay Club and attended the 2018 Kentucky Boys State - a program designed to train Kentucky youth in the fundamentals of good citizenship and governmental operations - where he was appointed Kentucky State Commissioner.
Andrew Streater, a member of the defending state champion Swimming and Diving team, is a Xavier Scholar, Peer Leader and member of the National Honor Society. Off campus, he lifeguards for Lakeside Swim Club and is a Life Scout.
Chas Pemberton is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Activities Council. Additionally, he is a member of the Tiger Archery, Quick Recall and Future Problem Solvers teams.
Daniel Tafel, president of the National Honor Society, is a member of the Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Additionally, he lifeguards at Professional Pool Management and volunteers at Norton Hospital.
Chas and Daniel both earned a perfect 36 on the ACT.
Sam Thompson was a participant of Governor's Scholars Program. He is involved in the Air and Space Club, Archery team and National Honors Society. Additionally, he is an English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor, teaching refugees and immigrants English each week, through Highview Baptist Church
