Tiger hardware earned by track & field, lacrosse and tennis teams

Congratulations to our Tiger athletes who have been busy earning bragging rights.

On Friday, the Lacrosse team claimed the program's 12th state championship by rolling past Trinity 12-4 at Brother Thomas More Stadium.

Not even 24 hours later, the Tigers clinched their second championship of the weekend. The Tennis team dominated as they swept the divisions en route to capturing the program's 10th consecutive KHSAA team title. Alex Wesbrooks won the singles title and Preston Cameron won his third consecutive doubles crown. Following the match, Wesbrooks was named Mr. Tennis.

Alex became St. Xavier's 61st combined singles-doubles state champion since 1932.

Preston and Will Stuckert won the doubles title after upsetting Trinity's top-seeded Chou brothers. Preston became the first player to win three titles in three straight years in the 87-year history of KHSAA boys' tennis. Additionally, he is just the second boy in the history of KHSAA tennis to win three doubles titles, all with different partners. He previously won with teammates Spencer Blandford '17 and Matt Graft '16.

The Tiger Track & Field team finished 2nd at the 3A KHSAA Championships on Saturday in Lexington. Beck O'Daniel was the individual champion in 300-meter high hurdles, setting a new school record with a time of 38.62. Additionally, the 4x400-meter relay team of Beck O'Daniel, Eoin Corbett, Zack Martinez, and Grady Shiflet placed first. It was the program's best finish since placing second in 2013.

The school's title total for the 2017-18 school year is now up to eight with championships in Cross Country, Rugby, Powerlifting, Soccer, Swimming & Diving, Volleyball, Lacrosse and Tennis. To date, the Tiger Athletics have vied for a state championship in 14 different sports, finishing runner-up in Golf, Football, Wrestling and Track & Field.

The Tiger Baseball team's quest to state will begin tonight, May 22, as they travel to Male for the 26th District Championship at 6:00 PM. The Tiger Baseball team finished the regular season with a 30-1 record.
