Tiger Coaches Named Coach of the Year

NFHS recognizes Andy Porta and Andy Schulten

Saint Xavier is pleased to announce soccer coach Andy Schulten '87 and baseball coach Andy Porta '85 have been named Kentucky Coach of the Year in their sports for 2017-2018 season by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

This marks the first NFHS recognition for both coaches.

Tiger Soccer defeated Daviess County 3-0 to capture the 2017 state title, and the program's 13th overall. Coach Schulten's Tigers outscored their opponents 19-2 throughout the four-game tournament run and finished the season undefeated in the state of Kentucky.

The 2017 championship marked the ninth for Schulten, the most for any boys soccer coach in state history.

Schulten was promoted to head coach in 1998 and has guided the Tigers to a 402-72-33 overall record at the completion of the 2017 season.

Tiger Baseball capped off a historic season in 2018 defeating Highlands 10-6 to capture the program's third state championship in five years and eighth overall – extending its lead for the most in state history by two.

Coach Porta's Tigers recorded its best finish in program history winning 37 games and achieving a Top-10 ranking in six national polls.

Porta was named head coach in 2012 and has guided the Tigers to three state championships and a 217-63 overall record.
