Tiger Football to celebrate centennial with season-long tribute
It will be a historic season for Tiger Football in the fall of 2018 as the program will field its 100th squad on the gridiron. St. X Athletics will take Tiger Nation down memory lane leading up to the season opener against DeSales on August 17.
Tiger Football fielded its first official team in 1917, but due to an influenza epidemic in Louisville, no teams were fielded in 1918 and 1919.
Football was the third sport, only behind baseball and basketball, to be played at Saint Xavier's College. At the time, only two other high schools in Louisville fielded football teams – the Male Bulldogs and the Manual Crimsons.
Fans will have an opportunity to capture a piece of history with a commemorative T-shirt, decal and stadium cup. More details will be released prior to the season kickoff.

The 100-day countdown to the 100th season of St. X football begins today, May 9.
