Volleyball Team Captures State Championship

Program's 5th consecutive title; 3 Tigers named to All-Tournament team

The Tigers Volleyball team earned the program's fifth consecutive state championship and 17th overall at the Kentuckiana Boys Volleyball Association Tournament at MidAmerica on Thursday, May 10. St. X has captured 11 of the last 12 state tournament titles.

The Tigers faced rival Trinity in the tournament semifinals, sweeping the Rocks in three straight sets, 25-10, 25-18, and 25-16. St. X broke out the brooms again in the championship game against DeSales, defeating the Colts 25-21, 25-11, and 25-18 to capture the tournament title.

"This is a great accomplishment for a very experienced team. I am very proud of how they were determined to finish their season strong," said Tiger Head Coach Ward Lotze.

Alex Walsh, Robby Cox and Cole Campisano were named to the All-Tournament team.

This marks the school's sixth state championship of the 2017-18 school year with titles in cross country, rugby, powerlifting, soccer, swimming & diving and volleyball. To date, the Tiger Athletics have vied for a state championship in 11 different sports, finishing runner-up in golf, football and wrestling.
