Track and Field Claim State Championship

Tigers clinch second consecutive track & field title

Congratulations to the Tiger Track & Field team who claimed the Class 3A KHSAA state championship on Saturday, June 12 at the University of Kentucky outdoor track & field complex.

St. X led Male only by two points before the deciding last event. Trae Burns, Nick Brooks, Nathan Wacker, and Sean Beam held off Male for a 3rd place finish in the 4x400 relay to seal the second consecutive title.

The Tigers opened the meet with a relay victory in the 4x800 relay. Nate Very, Sami Hattab, Nick Brooks, and Roman Schrader finished in 7:57.81.

Nolan Hester, a Bellarmine University signee, was crowned state champion in the 1600-meter event. He finished with a time of 4:15.22.

Anthony Woods, Noah Royal, Varlee Kamara, and Kaleb Jones clinched the 4x100 relay. Additionally, Woods placed 1st in the triple jump, recording a distance of 48-3.50. He also placed 3rd in the 100-meter dash, and would later claim the long jump state title with a distance of 23-11.25.

“As the head coach of the program, I could not be more proud of our coaching staff and team. This journey started 5 months ago with a degree of uncertainty about how we could train, when and how we would compete, and how much the pandemic would impact our athletes' and coaches' availability,” said David Stewart '06. “Our team persevered through numerous challenges and circumstances and found a way to thrive despite them. Our team won 13 of 16 track meets this year. Our team set four school records. At region, we qualified for the state meet in 29 of 32 opportunities and got a young man to state in every single event. Those are incredible statistics. June 12 was a day that every athlete on our state roster had to perform well and that is what these young men did. Every young man that stepped onto UK's track at the state meet should feel tremendous pride in what they did and how they did it. We are St. X!”

This marks the school’s seventh state championship of the 2020-21 school year with titles in cross country, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.
