Principal's eNews
We look forward to welcoming students back to campus next month. While there are many uncertainties, we are diligently working to get everything in place for a successful school year.
This message will generally arrive every Monday, but since books can be ordered as of today, I want to go ahead and give you a few updates. What Will This School Year Look Like?
The simple answer is that we are not sure. We have plans ready for any given scenario. Even though guidelines were released by the KY Department of Education and the KY Department of Public Health, the landscape continues to evolve. Schools have three options:
The Future of Online Learning at St. X
As we continue throughout the summer, we want you to know what we are doing to improve online learning to make sure it is in line with a St. X education.
ONE Learning Management System As we announced in early June, all students and teachers will use one online learning platform this year, Schoology. The days of having to remember a log-in for each class is over. All classes will be located in one area with one dashboard that accesses all courses. Parents will have their own log-ins, so they can keep track of their son's classes if they choose to do so. Directions on how to create a profile will be sent before school begins.
Your Input
There are a few surveys we will send over the next few weeks to get your thoughts and feedback on how we proceed. The first is a survey regarding the NTI (non-traditional instruction/online school) that occurred last spring. There is a separate survey link for parents and students, so we can understand perspective better. (FYI: The survey site may be down on July 3 for maintenance.) We hope this gives you ample opportunity to provide your feedback. We will close the surveys on Friday, July 10. Welcome President Paul Colistra
Mr. Colistra has remained connected to our school community over the past few months and is now in Louisville full-time. He is excited to start meeting students, faculty, and staff as the new school year begins. Please take a moment to extend a warm welcome to President Colistra and his wife Colleen and their children Ryan and Luca. Textbooks Available for Purchase Textbooks can now be purchased from MBSDirect. Free shipping is available on orders placed July 4-10. To access a student's booklist from MBS, click "Let's Get Started" and then enter the student number and follow the instructions. His new student number is 10 followed by the last 3 digits of his freshman ID. Contact MBS at 800-325-3252 if you have any questions or need assistance. Many courses offer online textbooks instead of hardbound books. Details on how to purchase those texts will be given out on the first day of class. Summer Reading 2020 The Rules are Easy We encourage you to choose from any genre of books, magazines, newspapers, or even how to manuals. While summer reading is optional this year, students who log their reading progress will be included in a raffle to win prizes including St. X swag, gift cards, and a set of Apple AirPods! The more you read means a greater chance to win! Be sure to check out some suggested reading from the Callahan Media Center. Campus Update
Administration and staff are working from both home and campus. Refer to the school directory for phone extensions and email addresses.
Buildings on campus are currently restricted to staff only. If you have items you need to bring to campus, there is a drop box available for letter-sized envelopes. Envelopes with tuition payments must include the student's name and student ID number.
The drop box is located near the entrance of the Brother Edward Driscoll building across from the Callahan Media Center. |
