Principal's eNews As we approach one month of school, I am proud of the way our students have handled this school year. We are in a steady flow with new procedures and with the hybrid schedule, and we have been able to make adjustments along the way.
Be sure to keep up to date on the school calendar by regularly reviewing Key Dates. We have made changes to the calendar since August.
Much of the landscape has changed regarding travel, and we want our travel policy to reflect that. Beginning today, all students must follow the state's current travel advisory. Any travel to a state with a 15% or higher positivity rate will require a 14-day quarantine. Those students will be required to attend online learning from home. Please refer to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center for up-to-date positivity rates before travelling. National Merit Semifinalists
Congratulations to seniors Charles Brashear, Justin Burch, Hillis Burns, Carson Ching, Andrew Frey, William Moeller, and Harrison Stropkay on being designated as National Merit Semifinalists. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Our seven seniors will compete against 16,000 other semifinalists to be designated as a National Merit Finalist. PSAT Date Change
The PSAT is administered to St. X juniors each year on a designated school day. It is a chance for students take a test similar to the SAT or ACT under official, timed conditions and scores are used by scholarship programs, including the National Merit® Scholarship Program. While typically offered in the fall, this year the PSAT will be offered at St. X on January 26. Additional details will be provided in the future. September

Keep up-to-date on the school calendar by regularly checking Key Dates. Visit The Daily Bulletin for school day announcements and Athletics for team schedules. St. X and Trinity have enjoyed a long-standing tradition of playing the regular season varsity football game at Cardinal Stadium. St. X, Trinity, and UofL have jointly determined that this year's game, scheduled for Friday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m., will not be played at Cardinal Stadium. For the first time ever, St. X, as the home team, will host the game at Brother Thomas More Page Stadium.
Restrictions issued by the Governor, the Health Department, and KHSAA, require limited crowd capacity. Tiger fans that are unable to attend in-person can cheer on our team via live-stream through the NFHS Network. Expect more details about the game and ticket allocation soon. School Pictures
Freshmen, sophomore, and junior school pictures are available to view and purchase on the St. X Gallery.
Seniors are reminded to make a senior portrait appointment with Illuminations Photography, 502.585.3103.
Make-up picture days are scheduled for October 7 and 8. Email Mrs. Wainscott if your son needs to have his picture re-taken or if he is on an NTI-only plan. She will assign him a date and time to have his picture made. This includes students who did not wear a shirt, tie, and sport coat on their original picture day. Parent Tech Academy Daily Health Screenings
Parents are expected to screen their sons for the following every morning before the school day begins.
Students with any COVID-19 symptoms should stay at home and, if healthy enough, engage in online learning. To aid in this screening and to track and communicate symptoms, it is now REQUIRED, that all students complete the daily health screening on the AUXS safety app.
Summer Reading The St. X librarians would like to recognize and thank the students who participated in our first "Read What You Love" Summer Reading Program. We had 185 students read 462 books, and we selected 35 prize-winners at random. Our top prize winner, freshman John Riley Kaufman, read ten books and won a set of Apple AirPods. Other prizes included restaurant and Amazon gift cards, books, and St. X swag. Keep reading, Tigers! Chad Bader '03 - My Tiger Tale Memories from St. X Faculty Alumni As I begin writing, the phrase that rings in my mind is "home is where the heart is." Although at times cliché, it is true.
I have wandered much of my life in search of home. In 1999, I left my tiny grade school for the massive Saint Xavier and I can say I felt everything but the peace of home. As I walked to my locker between classes, my OCD was like a timer ticking. I had just enough time to stop for a second, switch my stuff, and get to class. When I got to my locker, I plugged in the combination like I had practiced at orientation only to find it not budging. As time ticked on, the freaking out began. My locker wouldn't open, the halls were clearing, and I was realizing my squeaky clean image was going to be gone. As someone who had never been in trouble, I knew getting a JUG your first week of school was the beginning of a future life of crime. Although not rational, I began hyperventilating. This huge faceless school was going to eat me alive. This was not home.
In the most dramatic fashion I saw this incident changing my life's trajectory. Then the bell rang and I met Mrs. White. As I stood there, big enough to be a man but acting like a scared boy, she smiled, pulled me into her classroom, and explained the common-sense solution to my problem. Her concern brought me home, and my life trajectory changed from a life of crime to one that included Mrs. White - a mentor, friend, and honestly one of the most influential people in my life.
This year St. X looks and feels different, but it is still our community's home. As you journey through this year, dealing with the stress that comes with being a teenager (during a pandemic), be present to the experience. You never know who will be the smiling face when you need it. Home is here even when you are not looking. Welcome home; we are glad you're here! Did you miss a recent Principal's eNews?
