Bill Sherman, St. X Class of 1954, is a true servant leader. He has served numerous church and community organizations with countless volunteers hours performed at the grassroots level and he has risen to the top of most of these organizations, assuming leadership and providing strategic direction. All of this, Bill has done with boundless energy and an enthusiastic, positive attitude.
Among Bill’s extensive community involvement, he has served as a Project Business instructor with Junior Achievement, an instructor with Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), a director of the Southern Industrial Distributors Association, an officer and director of Louisville Boat Club, and president and director of Hunting Creek Country Club. Bill has been very active with Rotary International, serving as president and director of the Rotary Club of Prospect/Goshen and as an assistant district governor. He served on the parish council at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, leading the Catholic Services Appeal and parish picnic, among many other parish duties. Bill has also been active with the Notre Dame Club of Kentucky, serving on the board of directors and organizing numerous club activities through the years.
Bill joined the Saint Xavier Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2009 and served as president from 2012-2014. During his board tenure, Bill devoted countless hours to Alumni Association business, worked in the Alumni Booth at the St. Joe Summer Picnic, attended school functions to represent the Board, and recruited numerous alumni to volunteer at Association activities. He has been a dedicated Alumni Phonathon caller and organizer of class reunions. Bill recently signed on as Co-Class Agent for the Class of 1954 to ensure his classmates stay connected to their alma mater.
Bill is the retired President and Chief Executive Officer of Sherman Bros. Mill Supply, Inc. He served as First Lieutenant, Artillery Platoon Commander with the United States Marine Corps and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1969, he was named Man of the Year by the Notre Dame Club of Kentucky. In 2007, he was named Rotarian of the Year by the Rotary Club of Prospect/Goshen; and in 2012, he entered that club’s Hall of Honors.
Bill is married to Thelma Sherman. He has two daughters and two grandchildren. Bill has two step-sons and a son-in-law, all of whom are St. X graduates, and his grandson, Mason Sullivan, is a junior at St. X.
