Environmental Club Leads the Way in Caring for Creation

At Saint Xavier, our students live out their faith with purpose, and the Environmental Club is a shining example of that mission in action. Inspired by the late Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, this student-led group is boldly answering the call to care for our common home.

With the support of St. X and grants from the Kentucky Native Plant Society and the Kentucky Soil and Water Conservation District, the Environmental Club is transforming our campus and community into a model of ecological responsibility. From planting native and pollinator gardens to leading clean-ups at Beargrass Creek, these students are making a tangible impact on the health and beauty of our environment.

Their efforts go beyond beautification. They’re educating peers through bird and tree walks, working toward Kentucky Green School certification, and forming meaningful partnerships with groups like Louisville MSD. This is hands-on learning driven by faith, purpose, and leadership.

Rooted in our Xaverian, Catholic identity, we form young men who understand that caring for creation is not optional—it’s essential. At St. X, our students are not waiting for change; they are leading it.
