Joe Mattingly ’64 Leaves $1.175 Million Bequest to Saint Xavier

The estate of Joseph M. “Joe” Mattingly ‘64, long-time St. X benefactor and volunteer, has left Saint Xavier High School a transformational bequest of nearly $1.2 million. This gift will fund endowed scholarships at the school, providing resources for four full-tuition awards annually. Mattingly, just shy of his 75th birthday, died on May 8, 2025. Joe was incredibly committed to Saint Xavier and reminded his classmates often how important it was to support the school “at any level you can.” Joe spent hundreds of hours volunteering so that literally dozens of young men would be afforded a St. X education.

President Paul D. Colistra said, “It is St. X alumni like Joe Mattingly who ensure a Xaverian education in parts of our community where people never dreamed such an opportunity was possible. We have long known that the school’s endowment is critically important to ensuring the kind of scholarship support necessary to keep the school available to anyone wanting to attend.” As of the most recent reporting period, the school’s endowed funds surpassed $60 million in managed assets.
