David Stewart Named Coach of the Year

Saint Xavier is pleased to announce track and field coach David Stewart ’06 has been named Kentucky’s Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA). This marks the first coach of the year honors for Stewart.

Winners were selected by a committee of experts from around the nation. State-by-state winners were selected based on their team’s performance throughout the 2021 outdoor season. Among the factors taken into consideration were team score and placement at state championships, the margin of victory, individual championships, and how their teams’ performances stacked up to previous years.

“I am honored to receive the title of Kentucky's Coach of the Year as a representative of Saint Xavier High School's Track and Field program,” said David Stewart. “For me, this is a testament to the work of my coaching staff, our team, and our families. An honor like this would not be possible without them. I am grateful and proud to lead such a fine group of people.”

The Tiger Track & Field team captured the program’s second consecutive state title in the spring and 12th overall. The 2021 championship marked the first for Stewart, who was named head coach in 2019.

“What an accomplishment for Coach Stewart. This really is a reflection of our talented track & field student-athletes,” said Athletic Director Denny Williams. “Not really being able to compete since the spring of 2019, the team was ready to hit the track running this past season. Coach Stewart has put together a wonderful staff that has helped take this program to the next level.”
