Swimming & Diving Team Captures 2021 State Championship

The Saint Xavier High School Swimming and Diving team finished first in seven events en route to claiming the KHSAA state championship on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Blairwood in Louisville, Kentucky. The Tigers scored a total of 537 points. The margin of victory was 335.5 points ahead of the second-place team.

Charlie Crush, Will Scholtz, Holden Smith, and Wyatt Johnson opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:30.51.

Holden Smith, a University of Texas signee, notched his second and third title of the meet winning the 200 individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly, touching at 1:48.91 and 48.29, respectively.

"Our season was very unique and different due to COVID-19 restrictions. Our season was successful due to the incredible leadership of our students and how they prepare," said Head Coach Todd Larkin '86.

Tiger First Place Results:

  • 200-yard medley relay: 1:30.51 - Charlie Crush, Will Scholtz, Holden Smith, and Wyatt Johnson
  • 200 individual medley: 1:48.91 - Holden Smith
  • 100-yard butterfly: 48.29 - Holden Smith
  • 200 freestyle relay: 1:24.49 - Charlie Crush, Luke Thomas, Jackson Mussler, and Wyatt Johnson
  • 100-yard backstroke: 48.94 - Charlie Crush
  • 100-yard breaststroke: 54.73 - Will Scholtz
  • 400 freestyle relay: 3:03.63 - Cooper Tyler, Luke Thomas, Jackson Anderson, and Holden Smith

Twenty-one Tigers were named All-Americans: 

  • Academic (12) - Norb Burzynski, Jackson Mussler, Cooper Tyler, Gabe Biagi, Jackson Fears, Ethan Harned, Marco Ljubic, Alex Pray, Jacob Sanders, Josh Schulten, Holden Smith, Harrison Stropkay
  • Swimming (9) - Brandon Anderson, Charlie Crush, Will Scholtz, Holden Smith, Wyatt Johnson, Luke Thomas, Jackson Mussler, Cooper Tyler, and Jack Anderson

This state title is the program's 33rd consecutive, tying the boys' national record with Bolles (1988-2019), and 57th overall.
