Tigers Named MaxPreps Cup Champion

Saint Xavier High School is proud to announce that it has been named Kentucky’s top all-around athletic program. The Tigers placed first in the 2021-22 MaxPreps Cup standings with 1,452 points.

This marks the third consecutive year that the Tigers earned the top spot and the fourth time within the last five years.

The 2021–22 school year closed with five KHSAA state championships. Titles were won in football, swimming & diving, baseball, track & field, and tennis. The Tigers had two runner-up finishes in cross country and bowling.

In order to determine the top programs in the country, MaxPreps has developed a ranking system. The system takes into account a school’s success in 10 sports: football, basketball, baseball/softball, volleyball, wrestling, lacrosse, track & field, swimming, cross country, and soccer.

School programs receive points for state titles, runner-up finishes based on the type of sport, the size of the state, the enrollment classification of the sport, and the total number of teams competing in that classification. Points are also awarded for appearing in national rankings for various sports.

Also, MaxPreps named the St. X Swimming & Diving program as one of the Most Dominant High School Sports Dynasties. In reviewing some of the greatest athletes, teams, and stories of the 20-year MaxPreps era, St. X was ranked ninth. The Swimming & Diving program won its 58th boys’ state championship this past spring and the 34th in a row.
