Today is the Feast of St. Patrick, a fifth century bishop, missionary, and the patron saint of Ireland. Born in modern-day Britain, he was captured by slavers as a teenager and taken to Ireland. He escaped and made his way home after six years. However, after becoming a priest he returned to minister to the people of Ireland. Our prayer today comes from a prayer attributed to him. Let us pray…
We arise today through the strength of heaven. May God’s might uphold us, God’s wisdom guide us, God’s eye look before us, God’s ear hear us, God’s word speak for us, God’s hand guard us, God’s way be before us, and God’s shield protect us. May we arise today through the mighty strength of the Lord of creation. Amen.
